Verified
A Crossref or OpenAlex record matches the title and first author. If the record disagrees with a detail we could not confirm, such as the year, it is listed for you to check rather than changed.
Corrected
The publisher's Crossref record matches, another detail such as the volume or first page confirms it is the same paper, and a year, volume, issue, page or DOI in your reference is wrong. The corrected version keeps your style.
Not found
Neither Crossref nor OpenAlex has a matching record. Reports, theses and local journals are sometimes missing, but a reference that exists nowhere is the usual sign of one that was made up.
Retracted
The paper has a retraction or withdrawal notice. Remove it, or cite it only to discuss the retraction.
Not checked
Crossref or OpenAlex could not be reached at that moment. Nothing is wrong with the reference; check it again in a minute.
